The new year marks the death of cricket

The Aussie tour controversy rages on and is gathering steam. I am biased but still not as extreme in my view as some of the Aussies are, specifically Peter Roebuck. Refer the below two articles (The first one contains Roebuck's article in Sydney Herald):

http://www.smh.com.au/news/cricket/arrogant-ponting-must-be-fired/2008/01/07/1199554571883.html

http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ausvind/content/story/329708.html

I personally agree with Border when he says that most of it is cultural misunderstanding. But that is where my agreement ends. I think Australian team, specifically, Ponting/Clarke/Symonds have failed to recognize that cultural diversity, time and again now. What is worst is the way they are still defending their position. A tragic time for cricket. Thoughts?

read this article as well,

http://www.smh.com.au/news/cricket/dodgy-deeds-leave-sour-taste/2008/01/06/1199554486052.html

Seems like sydney herald is all out against Australian circket team.

what is interesting to note is the fact that they have not created a big issue of umpires (as has been done by Indian media) but are focusing more on Australian sposrtsmanship and raising doubts on that...

Indian express headline was: India c. Benson b. Bucknor...

Indian half hour news bulletin at prime time (9pm) carried 20 minutes of cricket, 6 minutes of advertisment and 2 minutes of riots happening in punjab and mumbai and 2 minutes of some politics...

To be fair, Sydney Herald published a full resume of Steve Bucknor on the fourth day of the test match, listing down all the follies he had committed and how much he makes for just 34 days of umpiring ($440/hour!!!)

But, I would agree that Aussie media has been very mature and grasping the larger picture than a few umpiring blunders.
